New data released this week from Tesco Telecoms shows that sales of Pay As You Go mobile broadband packages have grown a whopping 71% in recent weeks.

According to the report, the spike in sales has largely been attributed to an increase in popularity from students looking to limit their outgoings and gain access to the internet from the start of their term.

It is believed that the flexibility of PAYG mobile broadband has led many students to opt for the prepaid package rather than a pay per month package.

Tesco claim in the report that students appreciate that these kind of products mean that there is “no need to install a landline” as well as the fact that they eliminate “monthly squabbles over whoever’s paying the direct debit”.

The one month contract packages enable users to sign up for a month’s broadband use and also allows them to cancel the agreement with the broadband provider at any time – with no fee or penalty attached.

The PAYG mobile broadband plans work ijust like the popular mobile phone deals, where customers simply add credit to allow them to get online as and when it is required.

PAYG mobile broadband and one month contract mobile broadband are available from all of the UK’s major broadband suppliers, including Orange, 3, T-Mobile, O2 and Vodafone.
